Children are invited to explore the Seaside Gallery, handle Victorian seaside memorabilia and get their hands dirty to make the ugliest sea shell souvenir to take home! Your class will explore a vast array of animals and their unique habitats. Students will meet with boas, monkeys, platypuses, polar bears and more while investigating over 30 animals up close to determine their characteristics that help them survive at their habitats while finding out what’s the difference between a vertebrae and an invertebrate animal.

Your class will discover why every animal on the planet has a skeleton, will learn why animals need skeletons to be strong and healthy and will explore the 3 types of skeletons! Students will investigate and handle real museum specimens to see how animal skeletons have adapted differently due to their behaviours and habitats.

This workshop uses a range of real and replica objects linked to the experience of people at Hastings and the wider British Empire during World War Two. This workshop covers a wide range of topics from rationing to where the Sussex Regiment were deployed. It does contain references to the Holocaust, which may be upsetting to some children.

Cost
Workshops are free for schools within the Hastings Borough Council Area. Prices start are £2.00 per child for non-borough, language and independent schools which needs to reach a minimum (please get in touch for amounts). Our fees and charges are reviewed on annual basis by Hastings Borough Council.

Safeguarding
Our schools and groups visit risk assessment (PDF 300mb) is reviewed annually and updated as required. We follow Hastings Borough Council’s safeguarding policies and procedures. All museum staff have undergone Disclosure and Baring Service check.
Cancellations
On occasion bookings may need to be cancelled. We ask that you give us as much notice as possible if this happens. We will always try to reschedule your workshop in the first instance. If we are not able to then we will not charge you for the workshop and give you a refund if applicable. If we have to book your workshop, we will contact you by email or phone as far in advance as possible.
Evaluation
We would appreciate evaluation forms being completed for workshop so we can improve and refine the offer.
