The Roger Woods Design Archive

This exhibition celebrates the textile designs of Roger Woods, a radical artist and intellectual. In the late 1980's, he formed a design partnership with Simone Witney called Ariadne whose designs have been distributed world wide and are still selling today.
Roger's work is unique for its delicacy of handling, subtle colour of palette, and for his technical virtuosity, which is scarcely equalled anywhere in the world. In all his work he aimed at creating an illusion: if he was designing a floral, he created a dense bed of petals and blooms, if he was designing a tapestry, he created the atmosphere and look of a heavily woven cloth.
In the exhibition you'll see an illustration of every stage of the design process from inspiration through to the final product, inluding photographs of the studio and the work in progress, and room sets showing the cloth in use.
